STEYR CVT tractors are equipped with a state-of-the-art electronic network, by way of which important components are permanently communicating through a continuous exchange of data. This system, the so-called S-tronic –connects engine, continuously variable transmission, EHR (Electronic Hitch Response) PTO shaft, auxiliary control units and differential lock as well as operator controls and the performance monitor using an ISO-compatible system (CAN BUS). 3 computers For optimum co-ordination of engine and transmission during every second of operation, 3 electronic control units are installed in the STEYR CVT. The transmission control unit, which is service-friendly installed in the transmission card, controls the internal functions and ensures the continuously variable transmission ratio. The engine control unit processes the engine signals - such as charge pressure or speed - and vehicle impulses such as the position of the drive pedal. The third and most important electronic module is the vehicle control unit, which processes the signals arriving from the controls such as the new Multicontroller. The result of this extremely fast precision computer performance is perfect management of engine and infinitely variable transmission.
More comfort and greater economy. S-tronic automatically adjusts the engine to the most efficient engine speed. With S-tronic your CVT tractor achieves maximum performance at a very economical 1900 rpm. For example, on the road S-tronic adjusts the engine speed to most economical fuel consumption, while in the field doing PTO work S-tronic concentrates on ensuring consistent PTO speed. For large-area fertiliser application you can also select a manual mode. Then the speed ratio remains constant so the engine speed and PTO speed change in line with the travelling speed.

The S-Guide automatic steering system Tractor operators can concentrate fully on the performance of their implement, while the steering of the tractor is managed by S-Guide automatic steering system. In combination with DGPS technology this system ensures parallel passes when working in straight lines, curves, pivots, or on undulating ground. When planting, seeding, cultivating or tilling, there is no risk of overlap or missed ground, even in difficult weather conditions or at night.
Continuously variable into the future The continuously variable transmission marks the start of a new generation of drive systems. STEYR has created the perfect continuously variable drive for every driving operations. The engine power is transmitted in part hydraulically, but predominantly mechanically: rugged technology for high performance demands allows 50 kph at a reduced engine speed of 1550 rpm.
Functional transmission design All transmission components are combined in the form of a cartridge, this can be removed easily.
Effective power transmission The rugged and maintenance-free mechanical planetary gears with positive clutches deliver responsive handling thanks to their high degree of efficiency.
Continuously variable control The hydrostatic system guarantees continuously variable control of the speed ratio.
Economical and comfortable Continuously variable transmission combines economy and driving comfort. Engine speed is regulated electronically in the optimum speed range to minimize fuel consumption. The transmission speed ratio needed for the desired travelling speed is provided automatically, with continuously variable control.
High degree of efficiency The S-tronic has four main work areas, primarily with purely mechanical drive power or a low hydrostatically transmitted power component. On the basis of this design principle, maximum utilization is made of the engine power. Additional advantages include compact structural size and low weight. The electronics system with newly developed software not only controls the transmission functions, but is also responsible for engine management. Consequently, the entire drive system is always optimally adapted to the respective operating status.
