The longest convoy with Steyr tractors in the world

Two months ago a Steyr 9100M was the 500,000th tractor to roll off the production line at the plant in St. Valentin.

This unique anniversary was the occasion for a world record attempt which has been launched from the tractor plant on May 1st, 2005. Herman Schmidinger, from Haag, was responsible for the idea and the organisation of the tractor convoy and he was also in charge for taking registrations. From the Plus series through to the most recent Steyr Kompakt, 9000M, Profi and CVT, all drivers of the red-white Steyr tractor were warmly welcomed.

The Steyr Sales manager, Manfred Rinner, from CNH Austria welcomed all customers in the plant area of St. Valentin. This was the starting point of the convoy. As scheduled, the convoy was formed at 10.30 a.m. in the ground of the St. Valentin plant and setting up the tractors began at 9.00 a.m. After the trip to the Maikirtag (Celebration for the First of May) at Franz Forster Platz in St. Valentin, the tractor convoy started from there at 11.00 a.m. with the town of Haag as its destination. A small present beckons all the drivers. What`s more, there was a prize draw for the long-term use of a Steyr tractor for those involved. The largest group from any municipality also received an award. The driver of the tractor which came the furthest, also received a prize. The drivers were provided with a small snack to fortify them as soon as they started setting up in the factory ground, and after arriving at the Mostheuriger (traditional Austrian Tavern) "Hansbauer", they had a lunch. Steyr tractors were on display during the visit to the Haag Mostkirtag (Celebration of "the fresh apple wine"; celebration day for the village and family)establishment and the younger guests could look forward to a Steyr carriage ride. The world record was done with 152 tractors that formed the longest convoy with Steyr tractors in the world.

There were two TV Station which made reports for the Austrian television and a lot of newspapers made articles about this show. Even an helicopter and a notary attended the event to prove it was the longest convoy. It was the first time that such a quest has been attempted. Thus it sets a new kind of record and, as such, it has been recently signed in the Guiness Book of Records.
