Steyr shows the future in Wels

CVT with continuously variable transmission in focus –
Shown for the first time: Braked Alpine front axle

Steyr presents the future of tractor operation on the AGRARIA in Wels: The new Steyr CVT with continuously variable transmission is the focus of the exhibition on the Steyr pavilion in the heart of the fairgrounds. The complete Steyr programme with many innovations is on display. The two most interesting ones: The braked Alpin front axle of the Steyr M 900 and EFH, the second generation of front hydraulic control.

Following the start of sales in July, the 120 to 170 HP horsepower Steyr CVT will be presented to a wider public in Austria for the first time. The heart of the tractors is the continuously variable transmission, which opens up entirely new dimensions. Operating a tractor has never been as easy as with the CVT: Starting and pressing the accelerator – that’s all. Everything else is handled by the S-tronic, the electronic brain of the tractor. The CVT is able to accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h without shifting, the S-tronic ensures optimum speeds and consumption.

Case-Steyr has already earned much acclaim with the new tractor concept: At the Agritechnica in Hanover the CVT was chosen "machine of the year" at the end of 1999.

The possibilities of the CVT will be clearly demonstrated on the fair pavilion in Wels. Steyr technicians will demonstrate the active stoppage control on a ramp (stopping on inclines without braking) and many other details offered by the new tractors.

A host of innovations – a visit is well worth it.

Beside the CVT, Steyr is presenting the complete model range from series M 900 M 9000 and 9100 including the forest and community range. As part of the Agraria, the visitors will be shown a number of new features for the first time:

  • w Braked Alpin front axle for M 900: More safety at work with heavy front implements in steep terrain is offered by the braked front axle for the tractors of series M 900. The axle is equipped with a multiple disk bake. The three-stage differential lock allows optimum adaptation to the requirements of the job in difficult terrain, consequently providing safe operation with the tractor.

  • Electronic front hydraulics EFH: Considerably higher operating speeds with maximum protection of the sod and consequently a marked increase of productivity is possible with the latest generation of electronically controlled front hydraulics. The active pressure control operates with considerably shortened control speeds. The sensitivity of the control and the weight of the attached implement can be exactly matched. Operation is extremely simple. EFH is available for the tractors of the Steyr series M 900 and M 9000.

  • Steyr 9100 – new generation: For the first time on a trade fair in Austria, Steyr is presenting the new generation of Steyr 9100. The most striking characteristics: The exhaust has been moved to the A-pillar, providing the driver with completely unobstructed all-round vision. The elastic and powerful engines (109 to 150 HP) already meet future EU environmental regulations. The so-called "power-beyond-plate" is installed as standard in these tractors. This permits optimum utilisation of the load-sensing hydraulic system through connected implements with external load-sensing control units, for instance on front-end loaders or harvesting vehicles. And: The new arrangement of the cooling fins gives the tractor a dynamic appearance.

  • Super crawler gear for M 9000: A new super crawler gear is now also available as an option for the tractors of series M 9000. It allows speeds up to 80 m/h (at 1,000 rpm).

Information and competent personnel

The information offered is a traditionally strong point at the Steyr pavilion. A host of information material on all Steyr products is available for interested parties. Competent Steyr staff is also available to provide detailed information or discuss ideas. Apart from the latest tractor developments, Steyr will present the popular fan item programme at Wels: At the fair, friends of Steyr can buy the new Steyr clothing range, Steyr toy tractors and many other exciting items.
